  1. 16. Quantitative conservation genetics of the rare plants Scabiosa canescens (Dipsacaceae) and Silene diclinis (Caryophyllaceae)

    Författare :Patrik Waldmann; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; conservation biology; quantitative genetics; Scabiosa canescens; Silene diclinis; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns quantitative genetic aspects of the conservation biology of two rare plants, Scabiosa canescens and Silene diclinis. Particular attention was given to the effects of genetic drift on the structuring of variation in allozymes and quantitative characters, the association between (current) population size and quantitative genetic variation, the level of inbreeding depression in fitness characters and morphology in a small, isolated population, and the effect of inbreeding and intraspecific hybridization on developmental instability. 2. 17. Cytogenetics, genetic diversity and phylogenetics of wild Zea species, with emphasis on Zea nicaraguensis

    Författare :Carlos Henry Loáisiga Caballero; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Maize (Zea mays subsp. mays) is a member of the grass family Poaceae (Gramineae), together with many other important agricultural crops. The wild species commonly known as teosintes are the closest relatives of maize. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Structure of Rare-Earth Aluminosilicate Glasses Probed by Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy and Quantum Chemical Calculations

    Författare :Aleksander Jaworski; Mattias Edén; Thibault Charpentier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Aluminosilicate glasses incorporating rare earth elements feature highly beneficial physical and chemical properties, at the level beyond that accessible for compositions based on alkali and/or alkaline earth metals. Extraordinary hardness, high glass transition temperatures and indices of refraction, favorable coefficients of thermal expansion, as well as excellent chemical durability, result in many potential technological applications. Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the chemical and isotopic features of groundwater residing in the upper 1.2 km of sparsely fractured crystalline bedrock of the Baltic Shield. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Causes and consequences of spatial genetic variation in two species of scleractinian coral in East Africa : Levels of genetic differentiation and intraspecific diversity of Pocillopora damicornis and Platygyra daedalea

    Författare :Petra Souter; Mats Grahn; Bertil Borg; Karen Miller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population genetics; corals; Kenya; Tanzania; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell morfologi;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is a study of the spatial genetic structure of two species of scleractinian corals, Pocillopora damicornis and Platygyra daedalea. The overall objective was to investigate the current capacity of MPAs to preserve and restore coral reefs and to contribute information to improve management decisions. LÄS MER
