1. Interactions of Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes with DNA
Sammanfattning : The kinetics and mechanism for interactions of the anticancer active platinum(II) complexes cis-[PtCl2(NH3)2)], cis-[PtCl2(NH3)(c-C6H11NH2)], and trans-[PtCl2-(NH3)(quinoline)] with DNA have been studied using a combination of HPLC, circular dichroism (CD), UV/vis spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Reactions of the monoaqua forms (charge = +1) of these complexes with single-stranded DNA oligonucleotides, typically between 13-17 bases long, were found to depend on i) the composition of the reaction medium, ii) the exact nature and location of the platination target, and iii) on the DNA structure. 2. Model Systems for Metal - DNA Interactions. With a Focus on Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes
Sammanfattning : Reactions of trans-dicyanodichloroaurate(III) trans-dibromodicyanoaurate(III), trans-diamminedichlorogold(III), cis-diammine(aqua)chloroplatinum(II), cis-ammineaqua-(cyclohexylamine)chloroplatinum(II), chloro(terpyridine)platinum(II) and chloro-(diethylenetriaminepalldium(II) with dimethyl sulfide, thionucleosides, thionucleotides and thione- and guanine-containing 17-mer oligonucleotides have been investigated by use of conventional and high-pressure stopped-flow spectrophotometry and HPLC technique as a function of ionic strength, pH, temperature and pressure in aqueous solutions. The mechanism and rate of oxidation of dimethyl sulfide by gold(III) complexes depends on the concentration of free halide. LÄS MER
3. Gas-Phase Protein Structure Under the Computational Microscope : Hydration, Titration, and Temperature
Sammanfattning : Although the native environment of the vast majority of proteins is a complex aqueous solution, like the interior of a cell, many analysis methods for assessing chemical and physical properties of biomolecules require the sample to be aerosolized; that is, transferred to the gas-phase. An important example is electrospray-ionization mass spectrometry, which can provide a wide range of information about e. LÄS MER
4. Finding the unknowns in trans-translation
Sammanfattning : Ribosomes stalled on problematic mRNAs can be rescued by a mechanism called trans-translation. This mechanism employs a dual transfer-messenger RNA molecule (tmRNA) together with a helper protein (SmpB). In this work we have used an in vitro translation system with pure components to further clarify the roles of tmRNA and SmpB in trans-translation. LÄS MER
5. The Use of Supercritical Fluids to Reduce the Number of Phases in Catalytic Hydrogenation: The Reaction of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters to Fatty Alcohols
Sammanfattning : Supercritical fluids have unique properties - between those of liquids and gases - making them attractive reaction media. In this study, propane was used to change a heterogeneous catalyst from being substrate-covered in gas-liquid hydrogenation reactions into hydrogen-covered in our experiments. LÄS MER
