1. Supercritical Hydrogenation of Vegetable Oils
Sammanfattning : Vegetable oils were hydrogenated in a supercritical single-phase mixture with propane and hydrogen. The reaction was carried out in a small (0.5 ml) fixed-bed reactor and the influence of different process parameters was investigated. LÄS MER
2. Combustion Chemistry Investigation of Liquid and Solid Fuels
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to study the combustion of liquid and solid fuels with the emphasis on intermediates and products. Depending on the structure and the complexity of the fuel different reactors and methods were used. Small-scale laboratory reactors were built and chemical analysis and evaluation methods were developed. Heptane. LÄS MER
3. Acute cardiovascular effects of biofuel exhaust exposure
Sammanfattning : BackgroundAnthropogenic air pollution is a global health problem estimated to contribute to millions of premature deaths. Exposure to biomass smoke is common due to varying sources, such as wildfires, indoor cooking over open fires, and residential heating from wood stoves. LÄS MER
4. Experimental Studies on Using Butanol and Octanol Isomers as Drop-in Fuels for Diesel Engines
Sammanfattning : The increasing importance of transportation in modern societies has caused fossil fuel consumption to increase greatly in recent decades. However, burning fossil fuels in internal combustion engines can lead to high emissions of greenhouse gases, which cause climate change. LÄS MER
5. Glycerol supplementation in dairy cows and calves
Sammanfattning : The production of biodiesel from rapeseed oil methyl ester leaves glycerol (synonym: glycerine, 1,2,3-propanetriol) as a valuable by-product and a promising feed supplement for farm animals. This thesis provides information about the supplemental feeding with glycerol to dairy cows in early lactation and to young calves, and describes the fate of glycerol entering the rumen and the impact of glycerol on enteric methane production and gastrointestinal microbial populations.
