  1. 1. Dealing With Reservoir Effects in Human and Faunal Skeletal Remains : Understanding the radiocarbon dating of aquatic samples

    Författare :Jack Dury; Gunilla Eriksson; Kerstin Lidén; Peter Jordan; Johannes van der Plicht; Philippa Ascough; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Radiocarbon Dating; Reservoir Effects; Bayesian; Modelling; Palaeodiet; Stable Isotopes; Skeletal Remains; Collagen; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : Archaeology relies on the ordering of past events to study cultural developments. This has traditionally been achieved by looking at the stratigraphic depths of materials relative to one another. In this way, chronologies of past technological progressions and stylistic changes can be built. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Investigations of temporal changes in climate and the geomagnetic field via high-resolution radiocarbon dating

    Författare :Anette Mellström; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wiggle-matching; Radiocarbon dating; 14C; 2800 cal BP; climate change; solar activity; palaeomagnetism; lake sediments; varves; post-depositional remanent magnetisation; PDRM; lock-in; peat deposits; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Geological archives have shown periods of abrupt climate change in the relatively stable Holocene epoch (last ca. 11 700 years). One of these periods was around 2800 cal BP. Several records, mainly from Europe, reveal a shift towards wetter, cooler and windier conditions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Investigating adipose tissue turnover in humans using radiocarbon dating

    Författare :Keng-Yeh Fu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity, defined as an excessive accumulation of body fat, is considered one of the major health challenges facing the world today. Adipocyte and lipid turnover determine the number and the size of fat cells, respectively. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lake sediments around the Antarctic Peninsula : archives of climatic and environmental changes

    Författare :Rolf Zale; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediments; Antarctic Peninsula; radiocarbon dating; climatic and environmental changes; sediment chemistry; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Lakes and lake sediments from four areas around the Antarctic Peninsula are described.The concentrations of trace metals in sediment are found to be a useful tool in distinguishing between the different sedimentary phases during a transition from marine to limnic environment. 5. 5. People of the Dolmens and Stone Cists : An archaeogenetic Investigation of Megalithic Graves from the Neolithic Period on Gotland

    Författare :Magdalena Fraser; Kjel Knutsson; Mattias Jakobsson; Paul Wallin; Anders Götherström; Per Åke Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; archaeology; aDNA; ancient genomics; archaeogenetics; mtDNA; osteology; radiocarbon dating; Strontium; Carbon; Nitrogen; TRB; PWC; BAC; CWC; dolmen; stone cist; population demography; diet; mobility; cultural duality; admixture; kinship; Neolithic period; Early Bronze Age; Europe; Baltic Sea area; Scandinavia; Gotland; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The study of ancient genomics of pre-historic human remains has in recent years offered unprecedented knowledge regarding pre-historic migration and population structure on the European continent which has fundamentally altered the current views in the archaeological community. However, the merging of the two fields, archaeology and genetics, is still in its infancy and much work is still needed in order for these fields to integrate. LÄS MER
