6. Some Aspects of Nucleic Acids Chemistry
Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided into two parts based on a total of 8 papers: Part 1: Synthesis, physicochemical and biochemical studies of chemically modified oligonucleotides and their duplexes and triplexes. Potency of the chromophore conjugated DNA oligonucleotides as antigene and antisense gene repressors was evaluated. LÄS MER
7. Structural and functional basis of mitochondrial tRNA processing
Sammanfattning : The mammalian mitochondria are subcellular organelles, generating energy in the cell by the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) via oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). The maintenance of proper mitochondrial (mt) structure and function requires more than 1000 proteins generated from the nuclear DNA (nDNA) expression and 13 protein subunits generated from the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) expression. 8. Analysis of noncovalent and covalent protein-ligand complexes by electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the application of electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) to the analysis of intact proteins is demonstrated. In papers I and II, the use of ESI-MS for the analysis of noncovalent protein-ligand complexes were discussed. LÄS MER
9. Studies of genetic mosaicism in rare diseases
Sammanfattning : Mosaicism in human genetics refers to an individual harboring two or more genetic compositions, all derived from the same fertilized egg. Common signs of genetic mosaicism are asymmetric growth, skin aberrations or vascular malformations. LÄS MER
10. Multifaceted RNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms in Streptococcus pyogenes
Sammanfattning : Bacterial pathogens rely on precise regulation of gene expression to coordinate host infection processes and resist invasion by mobile genetic elements. An interconnected network of protein and RNA regulators dynamically controls the expression of virulence factors using a variety of mechanisms. LÄS MER
