  1. 1. Genetic Variability in Human Bone Phenotypes : The Vitamin D Receptor Gene and the Estrogen Receptor-α Cofactor RIZ Gene

    Författare :Elin Grundberg; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Helena Brändström; André G. Uitterlinden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Bone mineral density; candidate gene approach; polymorphism; the vitamin D receptor; the estrogen receptor α; RIZ1; cofactor; allelic imbalance; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Important candidate genes to human bone phenotypes are those involved in the regulation of hormonal action, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and the estrogen receptor-α (ERα) genes and their cofactors. RIZ1 is a specific ERα cofactor proved to strongly enhance the function of the ERα. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Further delineation of molecular alterations in adreno-medullary tumors

    Författare :Janos Geli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Pheochromocytoma; abdominal paraganglioma; neuroblastoma; tumor suppressor gene; DNA methylation; gene expression; RIZ1; NORE1A; RASSF1A; CDKN2A;

    Sammanfattning : Pheochromocytomas, abdominal paragangliomas and neuroblastomas are tumors of the sympathetic nervous system. Anatomically pheochromocytomas and abdominal paragangliomas arise from sympathoadrenal paraganglia, within and outside the adrenal medulla, respectively. LÄS MER

  3. 3. DNA methylation and gene expression patterns in adrenal medullary tumors

    Författare :Nimrod G B Kiss; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pheochromocytomas and abdominal paragangliomas are neuroendocrine tumors of the autonomous nervous system, arising in adrenal medulla and sympathetic ganglia throughout the abdomen. These tumors originate from catecholamine-producing chromaffin cells. Neuroblastomas are common childhood tumors in the adrenal medulla and abdominal ganglia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Endocrine tumour development : with special focus on chromosome arms 1p and 11q

    Författare :Brita Nord; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Endocrine tumour; Follicular thyroid tumour; Malignant melanoma; Midgut carcinoid; Pheochromocytoma; Abdominal paraganglioma; Merkel cell carcinoma; MEN1; SDHD; RIZ;

    Sammanfattning : The overall goal of this thesis has been to characterise the involvement of chromosome arms 1p and 11 q in the development of endocrine tumours. The MEN1 gene was analysed as a candidate tumour suppressor gene by screening for mutations in follicular thyroid tumours, malignant melanomas, pheochromocytomas, and abdominal paragangliomas. LÄS MER
