11. Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Processing in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, aspects of the use of cryogenically cooled rare-earth-ion-doped crystals in the fields of quantum optics and quantum information processing are addressed. The experiments and theoretical considerations referred to in this thesis are based on the coherent transient interaction between light and the ions in the crystals. LÄS MER
12. The Single Cooper Pair Box - a Quantum-Mechanical Electronic Circuit
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the single Cooper pair box (SCB) is investigated with a radio frequency single electron transistor (RF-SET). The RF-SET is used as an electrometer to detect the charge of the SCB. The SCB can be regarded as a quantum two-level system and could therefore be a possible qubit. LÄS MER
13. Numerical Quantum Dynamics
Sammanfattning : We consider computational methods for simulating the dynamics of molecular systems governed by the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Solving the Schrödinger equation numerically poses a challenge due to its often highly oscillatory solutions, and to the exponential growth of work and memory with the number of particles in the system. 14. Applying quantum approximate optimization to the heterogeneous vehicle routing problem
Sammanfattning : Quantum computing offers new heuristics for combinatorial problems. With small- and intermediate-scale quantum devices becoming available, it is possible to implement and test these heuristics on small-size problems. LÄS MER
15. Quantum computing with naturally trapped sub-nanometre-spaced ions
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this work, was to lay the foundations for the experimental realisation of a quantum mechanical controlled NOT gate in rare-earth-metal-ion-doped crystals. Small amounts of rare-earth elements, added during the growth of some inorganic crystals, will become substituted into the crystal lattice as trivalent ions. LÄS MER
