  1. 11. Kleptoplasty in Dinophysis spp : Ecological role and evolutionary implications

    Författare :Susanna Minnhagen; Paulo Salomon; Gregory Doucette; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dinophysis; kleptoplastid; real-time PCR; 16S rRNA; plastid evolution; Baltic Sea; Flow cytometry; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the question of whether planktonic protits of the genus Dinophysis have permanent plastids (=chloroplasts) or practice kleptoplasty, i.e. acquire plastids via predation on other microorganisms. Sequencing the plastid 16S rDNA of Dinophysis spp. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Studies on bacterial transmission pathways in a high endemic area, with a focus on Helicobacter pylori

    Författare :Anders Janzon; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :H. pylori; enterotoxigenic E. coli; V. cholerae; real-time PCR; transmission pathways; gastroenteritis; mouse infection models; bacterial gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : Even though half of the world’s population is infected with Helicobacter pylori, which causes gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer, the transmission routes of these bacteria remain unknown despite extensive epidemiological studies. Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) and Vibrio cholerae are two of the most common causes of acute watery diarrhea in developing countries. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Mitochondrial DNA in Sensitive Forensic Analysis

    Författare :Martina Nilsson; Marie Allen; Ulf Gyllensten; Antti Sajantila; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Genetics; Forensic genetics; Mitochondrial DNA; HVI HVII; Nuclear DNA; Quantification; Real-time PCR; Immobilised SSO probe assay; Pyrosequencing; Discrimination power; Coding region; Mixtures; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic profiling is commonly performed on the autosomes using multiple DNA markers. Although routine forensic DNA analysis is robust and based on reliable technologies, samples with degraded or limited amounts of DNA often fail. In these cases, the analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can be very valuable due to the high copy number per cell. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Opportunistic viral infection after paediatric transplantation

    Författare :Carola Kullberg-Lindh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Paediatric liver transplantation; paediatric stem cell transplantation; immunosuppression; opportunistic; CMV; EBV; AdV; HHV-6; real-time PCR; monitoring; specimen; post transplant lymphoproliferative disease;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Opportunistic viral infections can cause considerable morbidity and mortality in organ and stem cell transplanted (SCT) patients, mainly due to iatrogenic T cell dysfunction. Whereas in SCT patients, in general the immunosuppressive treatment can be discontinued after 6-12 months, for the majority of organ transplanted patients, the need for treatment is life-long. 5. 15. Regulation of vascular function by fluid mechanical forces. Development of a new vascular experimental platform for integrative physiological and molecular biological studies of living conduit vessels

    Författare :Li-Ming Gan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; perfusion model; endothelium; smooth muscle cells; shear stress; pressure; nitric oxide; endothelin-1; vascular endothelial growth factor; c-jun; c-fos; real-time PCR; NO probe.;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface between blood flow and target organs and is continuously exposed to fluid mechanical forces such as shear stress, compressive, and tensile forces. Both in vivo and in vitro data indicate that biomechanical forces exert important modulating effects on key vascular functions. LÄS MER
