  1. 1. The Role of Sugars for Protein Stabilization

    Författare :Christoffer Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein; water; QENS; biomolecule; EPSR; amorphous; trehalose; neutron scattering; cryopreservation; DSC; neutron diffraction; dielectric spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of biomolecular interactions with water and co-solutes can lead to greater knowledge regarding the mechanisms behind biomolecular stabilization. This is highly important for developing technologies aimed to preserve biological materials. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dynamics of biological membranes and associated water

    Författare :Peter Berntsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dielectric spectroscopy; phase transition; glass transition; DSC; lipid bilayers; lipid dynamics; water dynamics; purple membrane; diffusion; polarisation; QENS.; relaxation; long-range conductivity;

    Sammanfattning : An ingenious assembly of biomolecules and water constitute what we call biological tissue. The presence of water in this assembly is fundamental for the physiological processes and can make the difference between life and death. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Local Structure and Dynamics of Next Generation Electrolytes - linking microscopic and macroscopic properties

    Författare :Filippa Lundin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; QENS; Ionic Liquids; Highly concentrated electrolytes; Dynamics; SAXS; Ion Transport; Electrolytes; Structure;

    Sammanfattning : The electrolyte is a crucial part of a battery in terms of performance, longevity and safety. However, the state-of-the-art electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries are based on organic solvents and Li-salts (typically at 1M concentration) which are volatile and degrade at higher temperatures. 5. 5. Neutron scattering for sustainable energy materials: investigations of proton dynamics in acceptor doped barium zirconates

    Författare :Daria Noferini; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; neutron scattering; fuel cells; QENS; Proton conductors; perovskites; proton dynamics; energy materials;

    Sammanfattning : Proton conducting oxides are currently receiving considerable attention for their present or potential use as electrolytes in technological devices such as sensors and electrolysers and, in particular, solid oxide fuel cells, which are among the most promising apparatuses for energy conversion. One of the main challenges for these latter devices is to combine the advantages of a solid electrolyte with those of operational temperatures below 750 °C, which is currently hampered by insufficient conductivities in the targeted temperature range.
