1. QCD Phenomenology of Heavy Particle Dynamics
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the phenomenology of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) is studied in a variety of circumstances from both perturbative and non-perturbative perspectives. The main emphasis is on the production and hadronization of heavy particles, specifically heavy quarks, gauge bosons, leptoquarks and supersymmetric particles. LÄS MER
2. Diffraction in high-energy collisions
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns itself with low-momentum-transfer processes in high-energy particle collisions. These processes cannot be described in the framework of the fundamental theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), but rely on a pre-QCD approach, the Regge theory. LÄS MER
3. Phenomenology of new Neutral Vector Bosons and Parton Distributions from Hadronic Fluctuations
Sammanfattning : The Higgs particle was first predicted in 1964, and was discovered in the summer of 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This discovery was the latest in a long list of successful Standard Model predictions spanning the last fifty years. LÄS MER
4. Tackling the Uncertainties of Event Generators
Sammanfattning : This thesis is composed of four papers, which concern Monte Carlo event generators for high energy particle physics. Precise predictions of the outcome of particle collisions are important for the exploration of the Standard Model of particle physics at collider experiments like the LHC at CERN. LÄS MER
5. Improving Parton Showers with Fixed Order Matrix Elements
Sammanfattning : This thesis considers numerical simulations of high energy particle collisions, and improvements in the description of multiple collimated jets of hadrons in collision events in particular. In the event simulation software called event generators, the structure of multi-jet events is determined through an interplay of the input calculation, parton showers and phenomenological hadronisation models.
