  1. 16. Ischemic brain damage following transient and moderate compression of sensorimotor cortex in Sprague-Dawley and diabetic Goto-Kakizaki rats

    Författare :Jurgita Kundrotiené; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cortical compression; cerebral ischemia; neuroprotection; hyperglycemia; GotoKakizaki rats.;

    Sammanfattning : Several animal models have been developed to facilitate the investigation of biochemical, physiological, and neurological events after cerebral ischemia. In this study we present a new animal model which reliably describes morphological changes and neurological deficits produced by mild to moderate brain ischemia and which can be used to identify novel, potentially useful, neuroprotective agents. 2. 17. Stem cells in inflammation and regeneration : focusing on animal models of multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury

    Författare :Sreenivasa Raghavan Sankavaram; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of regenerative medicine is to replace or restore injured cells and tissues in the body. Stem cells are identified playing a key role in the regeneration but action of inflammatory mediators in disease is not well understood. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Serotonergic mechanisms in atopic dermatitis

    Författare :Aram Rasul; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Atopic dermatitis (AD) may be worsened by stress and anxiety. Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) is an important mediator in stress and anxiety. In the present thesis serotonergic mechanisms were studied in atopic dermatitis (AD). LÄS MER

  4. 19. Expression and functional analysis of the SCA7 disease protein ataxin-7

    Författare :Anna-Lena Ström; Monica Holmberg; Patrik Brundin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Polyglutamine disease; CAG repeat; Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by cerebellar ataxia and visual problems due to a progressive and selective loss of neurons within the cerebellum, brainstem and retina. The disease is caused by the expansion of a CAG repeat in the first coding exon of the SCA7 gene, resulting in an expanded polyglutamine domain in the N-terminal part of ataxin-7, a protein of unknown function. 5. 20. From molecule to neuron : thyroid hormone action in the brain

    Författare :Susi Gralla; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of thyroid hormone (TH) for mental health has been known for decades. With the identification of the thyroid hormone receptors α and β (TRα, TRβ), TR dependent mechanisms involved in brain development were investigated, identifying TRα1 as the main TR isoform in the brain.
