Sammanfattning : Aim: The aim of this thesis was to study prevalence of perceived nervousness and mental stress in a female population and to investigate associations between perceived nervousness and mental stress and psychosomatic symptoms as well as mortality and morbidity. 4. The expert and medical progress : Experts' influence on the views of peptic ulcer and dyspepsia and its treatment in Scandinavia during five decades
Sammanfattning : In this study the experts' influence on the recommendations for treatment of peptic ulcer in Scandinavia during the period 1940-1975, on the development of the first H2-receptor antagonist, cimetidine, on the adoption and use of H-receptor antagonists during the introductory phase in Scandinavia 1978-1986, and on the controversy about dyspepsia, is analysed.Experts during 1940-1960 promoted their "cures" containing severe diet restrictions and bed rest, convinced of their benefit. 5. Alexithymia : studies of alexithymia in relation to somatic complaints, cognitive bias, emotion, and affect intensity
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents four studies on alexithymia, measured by the twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), and explores its relation to somatization, cognitive bias, emotion, and affect intensity. Alexithymia, by definition, involves difficulties in identifying and describing emotions, and has been assumed to be associated with somatization. LÄS MER
