  1. 1. Proton pump inhibitors: indications and acid rebound

    Författare :Anna Niklasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Proton pump inhibitors; indications; gastrointestinal symptoms; overuse; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; acid rebound hypersecretion; gastroesophageal reflux disease;

    Sammanfattning : Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are nowadays the therapy of choice in the management of a variety of upper gastrointestinal (GI) conditions particularly gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Previous studies indicate that patients commonly receive PPIs without clear indications. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pharmacodynamic Modelling of Irreversible and Reversible Gastric Proton Pump Inhibitors

    Författare :Angela Äbelö; Mats Karlsson; Michael Looby; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Sammanfattning : Acid related diseases like GERD, duodenal-and gastric ulcers and H. Pylori-positive peptic ulcer disease are primarily managed by reducing gastric acidity. Irreversible proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) inhibit gastric acid secretion effectively throughout the day by irreversibly inhibiting the gastric proton pump, H+, K+-ATPase, in the parietal cells. 3. 3. Perforations of the Upper Gastro-Intestinal Tract

    Författare :Michael Hermansson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Prognostic factors; Incidence; Surgery; Diagnostic methods; Proton pump inhibitors; NSAID; Peptic ulcer perforation; Esophageal perforation; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Material and methods: In all, 237 consecutive patients with a perforated peptic ulcer admitted from 1974-1992 and 125 consecutive patients with an oesophageal perforation admitted from 1970-2006 to Lund University hospital were studied retrospectively. Prognostic factors were evaluated using the Cox proportional hazards model. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Infections Related to the Use of Medical Devices and Changes in the Oropharyngeal Flora

    Författare :Hulda Thorarinsdottir; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thrombosis; critical illness; biofilm; intratracheal intubation; ventilator-associated pneumonia; ; central venous catheters; catheter-related infections; proton pump inhibitors; oropharynx; MICROBIOTA; foreign-body reaction; hemolysis; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Humans exist in mutualistic balance with a large range of microbiota. Illness and hospitalization can disturb this balance and contribute to hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), which occur most often in critically ill patients. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Faecal Calprotectin Diagnostics : Focus on Primary Care and Suspected Sources of Error

    Författare :Zlatica Rendek; Henrik Hjortswang; Magnus Falk; Ewa Grodzinsky; Stergios Kechagias; Mikael Lilja; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Calprotectin; Inflammatory bowel disease; Gastrointestinal disease; Primary health care; Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents; Proton pump inhibitors; Respiratory tract infection;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with gastrointestinal symptoms often present a diagnostic challenge for general practitioners. Faecal calprotectin (FC) is commonly used as a marker of intestinal inflammation and is useful for differentiating between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as for the follow-up of patients with IBD and monitoring treatment response.
