  1. 1. Interactions between staphylococci, heparin, heparin dependent growth factors and biomaterials

    Författare :Corina Fallgren; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; and biomaterials bonded with antibiotics; heparin-binding growth factors; staphylococci; heparin; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Resident skin micro-organisms such as S. epidermidis and other coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), are by far the most common causes of biomaterial-associated infections. These micro-organisms often exhibit surface adhesins that specifically bind serum and tissue proteins adsorbed to implanted biomaterials. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Revision hip arthroplasty using impacted allograft bone and cement. Studies on prosthetic stability and outcome

    Författare :Vasileios Zampelis; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Revision hip arthroplasty; impaction bone grafting;

    Sammanfattning : För 50 år sedan började man operera utslitna höftleder och använda konstgjordaledytor som ersättning. Antalet operationer har långsamt ökat och operationen är nu en av de vanligaste i Sverige. En ny höftled leder oftast till total smärtfrihetoch ökad rörelseförmåga under lång tid men ibland kan de insatta delarna lossna. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bisphosphonates for orthopedic applications. Studies in rat models

    Författare :Jörgen Åstrand; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; Surgery; topical treatment; osteonecrosis; bone graft resorption; prosthetic loosening; Bisphosphonates; osteoclasts;

    Sammanfattning : Prosthetic loosening, bone graft resorption and osteonecrosis are examples of problems in orthopedic surgery caused by or augmented by bone resorption. Bone resorption is caused by osteoclasts. Osteoclasts can be inactivated with biphosphonates, a drug in clinical use against osteoporosis and osteolytic tumors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Allograft bone in hip revision: the effect of locally applied pharmacological treatment

    Författare :Ola Belfrage; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allograft bone; bone transplantation; bisphosphonate; bone morphogenetic proteins; hip revision; radiostereometric analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The clinical success of primary hip replacement is paramount but the need for revisions will continue to increase due to the increasing number of operated individuals. In Sweden, the number of hip revisions in 2012 exceeded 2,300. During implant loosening, some of the bone in the femur is lost, which can make the revision more difficult. LÄS MER
