  1. 16. Understanding the Noise : Spliceosomal snRNA Profiling

    Författare :Lei Liu Conze; Anders Virtanen; Lars Wieslander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ncRNA; snRNA; U1; splice site; alternative splicing; high-throughput sequencing; 454; SNP; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The concept of the gene has been constantly challenged by new discoveries in the life sciences. Recent challenging observations include the high frequency of alternative splicing events and the common transcription of non-protein-coding-RNAs (ncRNAs) from the genome. The latter has long been considered noise in biological systems. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Disturbed Islet Function and Alterations in Islet Protein Expression

    Författare :Henrik Ortsäter; Peter Bergsten; Franz Schuit; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; islet; glucose; oleate; corticosterone; oxygen tension; insulin release; protein profiling; Clark-like electrodes; SELDI-TOF MS; PPI-B; 11β-HSD1; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic β-cells sense the concentration of glucose in the systemic circulation through metabolism of the sugar molecule. Failure to correlate the blood sugar concentration to an appropriate metabolic signal disrupts the function of the β-cell as a controller of glucose homeostasis and may contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. 3. 18. Aspects of Gene Expression Profiling in Disease and Health

    Författare :Julia Bergman; Fredrik Pontén; Lars Akslen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; biomarkers; differential diagnostics; immunohistochemistry; transcriptomics; protein profiling; adrenal gland.; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to in various ways explore protein expression in human normal tissue and in cancer and to apply that knowledge in biomarker discovery.In Paper I the prognostic significance of RNA-binding motif protein 3 (RBM3) is explored in malignant melanoma. 4. 19. Array-based identification of disease-associated proteins

    Författare :Maria Mikus; Peter Nilsson; Jochen M. Schwenk; Ina Schuppe-Koistinen; Dolores Cahill; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Affinity proteomics; Antibody array; Antigen array; Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; Asthma; Atopic dermatitis; Biomarker discovery; Drug-induced liver injury; Microarray; Plasma; Protein microarray; Protein profiling; Serum; Suspension bead array; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : To increase our understanding of the human body in both health and disease, proteins can be studied in samples such as plasma and serum to provide a molecular profile of the physiological status. In the work presented in this thesis, array-based methods were used to study associations of protein and autoantibody profiles with disease. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Affinity-based proteomics offers opportunities for the discovery and validation of disease-associated proteins in human body fluids. This thesis describes the use of antibody-based immunoassays for multiplexed analysis of proteins in human plasma, serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). LÄS MER
