    Sammanfattning : Enzymes are biological catalysts that significantly increase the rate of all biochemical reactions that take place within cells and are essential to maintain life. Many questions regarding their function remain unknown. LÄS MER

  2. 2. NMR Studies of Bacterial Albumin-Binding Modules

    Författare :Maria U Johansson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Physical chemistry; three-helix bundle; protein structure; protein PAB; protein-protein interactions; protein G; protein dynamics; NMR; module shuffling; GA module; evolution; albumin-binding; bacterial surface proteins;

    Sammanfattning : Peptostreptococcus magnus and group C/G streptococci are Gram-positive cocci that are part of the normal flora and reside in more or less the same locations in the host. Protein G of group C/G streptococci was originally described as binding IgGFc of several species and later shown to also bind human serum albumin and albumins from various animal species. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Protein Folding, Binding and Evolution : PDZ domains and paralemmins as model systems

    Författare :Greta Hultqvist; Per Jemth; Ruth Nussinov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein folding; evolution; binding; allostery; Paralemmin; PDZ domain;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins present at the synapse need to be multitasking in order to perform all vital functions in this limited space. In this thesis I have analyzed the function and evolution of such proteins, focusing on the PDZ domain and the paralemmin family. The PDZ domains bind to a wide variety of interaction partners. 4. 4. Learning Protein Evolution and Structure

    Författare :Patrick Bryant; Arne Elofsson; Paul Bates; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein structure prediction; Evolution; AI; AlphaFold; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : By analysing the structure of a protein it is possible to draw conclusions about its function. Obtaining the structure of a protein experimentally is however a time consuming and expensive process. By using evolution it is possible to infer the structure of a protein. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria of the family Gemmataceae belong the phylum Planctomycetes and are remarkable because of their complex cellular architectures, previously considered to be traits exclusive to eukaryotes. This thesis provides clues to the atypical cell envelope, the enhanced radiotolerance and the amazing cellular complexity of these bacteria. LÄS MER
