  1. 21. Nanoscale studies of the atmospheric corrosion of copper protected by ultrathin organic films

    Författare :Weijie Zhao; C. Magnus Johnson; Christopher Leygraf; Guido Grundmeier; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; copper; corrosion inhibition; Langmuir-Blodgett LB deposition; self-assembly deposition; nano-FTIR; octadecylphosphonic acid ODPA .; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Copper (Cu) has been utilised by humans for millenniums and has become an indispensable metal in modern industry and in our infrastructure. However, corrosion, as a natural process for metallic materials, takes place on copper surfaces in most environments. LÄS MER

  2. 22. To do or not to do : dealing with the dilemma of intervention in Swedish nature conservation

    Författare :Anders Steinwall; Katarina Eckerberg; Anna Zachrisson; David Feltenius; Arjen Buijs; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Protected area management; nature conservation; ecological restoration; biological diversity; discourse; institutionalization; forests; white-backed woodpecker; policy struggle; nature values; statskunskap; political science;

    Sammanfattning : Nature conservation is often seen as being primarily about shielding parts of nature from human intervention, e.g. by protecting areas. Over the last decades, however, intervention is increasingly being seen as necessary for nature to regain or retain its values, through ecological restoration and active management. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Exploring stakeholder perceptions of an urban protected area and associated co-management arrangements: Macassar Dunes, Cape Town, South Africa

    Författare :Marnie Graham; Henrik Ernstson; Thomas Elmqvist; Maria Stenseke; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural Resources Management; naturresurshushållning; Human Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Within our cities the importance of urban green spaces such as forests, parks, wetlands, and protected areas are increasingly recognised for their contribution to human health and wellbeing, and in the provision of ecosystem services. Meanwhile, cities contain much social, cultural, economic, and environmental diversity, and natural resource management strategies for green areas need to account for the diversity of perspectives and conflict spaces that such urban diversity can encapsulate. 4. 24. Fragmented landscapes : Assessment and communication of landscape connectivity in human-dominated landscapes

    Författare :Arvid Bergsten; Örjan Bodin; Bo Ebenman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fragmentation; Connectivity; Network; Spatial; Landscape; Dispersal; Planning; Social-Ecological; Scale; IIC; STS; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis summarizes the first half of my PhD on the theme of management of fragmented landscapes. The thesis applies – and reflects on the use of – network analysis of connectivity in relation to landscape planning. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Spatial complexity and fit between ecology and management : Making sense of patterns in fragmented landscapes

    Författare :Arvid Bergsten; Örjan Bodin; Emily Minor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Connectivity; Conservation; Dispersal; Ecological knowledge; Ecology; Forest; Fragmentation; Graph theory; Institutional fit; Landscape; Management; Metapopulation; Municipal ecologist; Network; Planning; Protected area; Scale mismatch; Social-Ecological; Urban; Wetland; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Sammanfattning : Avoiding the negative effects of habitat fragmentation on biodiversity is especially challenging when also the management institutions are spatially and administratively distributed. This doctoral thesis introduces five case studies that investigate ecological, social and social-ecological relations in fragmented landscapes. LÄS MER
