1. Utilization of Decomposition Techniques for Analyzing and Characterizing Flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the utilization of two different decomposition techniques, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD), for enhanced understanding of flow structures and their stability. The advantages of these techniques are shown for a range of flow situations, most of which are turbulent. LÄS MER
2. Structure of Zero Pressure Gradient High Reynolds Number Turbulent Boundary Layers
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents part of the large research program funded by the European Commission calledWallturb: A European synergy for the assessment of wall turbulence. The main aim of this researchprogram is to create new experimental and numerical databases on the characteristics of turbulent wall-bounded flows, especially turbulent boundary layers. LÄS MER
3. Flow control and reduced-order modelling of transition in shear flows
Sammanfattning : In this thesis direct numerical simulation is used to investigate the possibility to delay the transition from a laminar to a turbulent flow in boundary layer flows. Furthermore, modal analysis techniques are used to identify the coherent structures in wind turbine wake. LÄS MER
4. Large Eddy Simulations of Complex Flows in IC-Engine's Exhaust Manifold and Turbine
Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with the flow in pipe bends and radial turbines geometries that are commonly found in an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). The development phase of internal combustion engines relies more and more on simulations as an important complement to experiments. LÄS MER
5. Spatial Decompositions of a Fully-developed Turbulent Round Jet Sampled with Particle Image Velocimetry
Sammanfattning : Spatial decompositions of the turbulence in a far, axisymmetric jet at exit Reynolds number of 20, 000 have been performed. Equilibrium similaritytheory applied to the two-point Reynolds stresses has shown that the turbulence statistics in the far, fully developed region of an axisymmetric jet should be independent of origin in the streamwise direction when evaluated on the similarity coordinates system.
