6. Two New Non-invasive Treatment Methods for Otitis Media with Effusion in Children and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in Adults
Sammanfattning : Otitis media with effusion (OME) in children and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in adults are common conditions in medicine. Several surgical and non-surgical methods have been suggested for treatment of these diseases. LÄS MER
7. The effects of posture, airway pressure and anesthesia on regulation of the regional ventilation and perfusion distribution in healthy humans
Sammanfattning : Gas exchange has been observed to vary with posture in adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients. In this thesis, the effect of posture on theregional distribution of ventilation (V) and perfusion (Q) in the lungs under normal breathing with and without continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and during general anesthesia with mechanical ventilation was studied. 8. Parastomal hernia : clinical studies on definitions and prevention
Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies was to evaluate the short and long term effects on the development of parastomal hernia and stoma complications of a prophylactic prosthetic mesh placed in a sublay position at the index operation. Also the purpose was to validate a definition of parastomal hernia at clinical examination and a method and a definition of parastomal hernia at CT-scan. LÄS MER
9. Regional pulmonary vasoreactivity, with special reference to nitric oxide, prostacyclin and body posture
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of the study was to investigate possible mechanisms behind the improved arterial oxygenation in ventilator-treated patients with acute lung injury (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) when turned into prone position. A secondary aim was to discover new knowledge of possible importance for treatment of patients with oxygenation problems in intensive care and during anesthesia. LÄS MER
10. The effect of mechanical ventilation on the abdominal organs
Sammanfattning : During mechanical ventilation (MV), the interplay between abdomen and thorax has been studied unilaterally focusing on the effect that an increased abdominal pressure would have on the thorax. Only a small cluster of studies offered a different perspective showing a lower inflammation and a better lymphatic clearance of edema in abdominal organs when spontaneous breathing was applied compared to MV.
