Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the local reception and use in Sweden of the major international large scale assessments (ILSAs) of student performance: Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) and International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS). The aim is to describe and analyze how Swedish teachers, principals and school directors interpret and possibly use ILSAs in their professional practice. LÄS MER
2. Möten med PISA : kunskapsmätning som samspel mellan elever och provuppgifter i och om naturvetenskap
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the standardized assessment of students’ scientific literacy by studying test items, frameworks and result reports from the international comparative study Programme for International Student Assessment, PISA. My research concerns the negative trend observed for Swedish students’ results in science reported in international comparisons since 2000. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the area of research based on large-scale educational assessments, focusing on the application of multilevel models. The role of sampling weights, plausible values (response variable imputed multiple times) and imputation methods are demonstrated by simulations and applications to TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) data. 4. Does language matter? : sources of inequivalence and demand of reading ability of mathematics tasks in different languages
Sammanfattning : Practicing mathematics is not possible without the use of language. To communicate mathematical content, not only words in natural language are used but also non-verbal forms of communication such as mathematical symbols, graphs, and diagrams. All these forms of communication can be seen as part of the language used when doing mathematics. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral dissertation project has been to investigate and describe the reading comprehension of digital texts related to the reading of traditional texts by gender differences, computer-game playing, and socioeconomic background factors.
