1. Tactile Perception - Role of Physical Properties
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to interconnect human tactile perception with various physical properties of materials. Tactile perception necessitates contact and relative motion between the skin and the surfaces of interest. LÄS MER
2. Characterization of interfaces by elastic light scattering and profilometry
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the characterization of interfaces by elastic light scattering and profilometry. The sensitivity of scattering measurements to surface topography were used in two major ways. It was shown that surface reactions in a liquid-solid interface can be monitored in situ in terms of changes in surface roughness. LÄS MER
3. Dissolution of fluorite type surfaces as analogues of spent nuclear fuel : Production of suitable analogues and study the effect of surface orientation on dissolution
Sammanfattning : It is accepted worldwide that the best final solution for spent nuclear fuel is to bury it in deep geological repositories. Despite the physical and chemical barriers that are supposed to isolate the nuclear waste for at least 100.000 years, some uncertainty factors may cause underground water to get in contact with the nuclear waste. 4. High power impulse magnetron sputtering under industrial conditions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the recent development step of magnetron sputtering, termed high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) has been studied. Compared to conventional magnetron sputtering HiPIMS provides a higher plasma density which can ionise the sputtered material. LÄS MER
5. Adhesive wear testing and modelling of tool steels sliding against sheet metals
Sammanfattning : Sheet metal forming is a manufacturing method used because of its versatility. Sheets are plastically deformed by a tool to create a product. A tool is expected to last for several 100,000 forming operations and efforts are made to optimize the tools. A common type of wear referred to as galling is the adhesion of sheet material to the tools. LÄS MER
