    Sammanfattning : Design research, sensation and perception, hard metrology, emotional functions, semantics, surface roughness, product interaction, core values, total appearance… the list of scientific phrases never ends. Yet, what do they mean and how shall we use it when we are communicating with the industry and our end users? Is it possible to link the product experience to process parameters, put a number onto it? When you can measure spoken needs or even better, implied needs, of a product, and relate that data to the production, it is possible do create advanced products with high interaction stimuli. 2. 2. Design Syntactics: A Functional Approach to Visual Product Form Theory, Models, and Methods

    Författare :Anders Warell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; product semantics; engineering design; industrial design; product form; design methodology; visual design aesthetics; design syntactics; functionality; interdisciplinary design; form design development;

    Sammanfattning : In line with the increasing importance of high quality appearance and aesthetic appeal in the design of consumer products, there is a growing need for enhanced understanding and ability to handle visual product form in industrial product development. In an approach for meeting that need, this thesis concerns the nature and development of visual design aesthetics in product form design. LÄS MER

  3. 3. An Ontological Approach to support Knowledge Sharing between Product Design and Assembly Process Planning (APP)

    Författare :Baha Hasan; Jan Wikander; Mauro Onori; Jonathan C. Borg; Jos'e Barata; Pär Mårtensson; Monica Bellgran; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; knowledge sharing; Ontology; semantics; assembly knowledge; assembly design and assembly process planning.; Production Engineering; Industriell produktion;

    Sammanfattning : Modern manufacturing organizations have to cope with several critical issues arising from the need for mass customization such as short product life-cycles, an increasing number of product variants and frequently changing customer requirements. One of the main factors that could aid overcoming those challenges is the use of information and communication technology (ICT) applications over a collaborative manufacturing environment, in which all stakeholders share and exchange knowledge across different manufacturing domains and applications. 4. 4. Demystifying the Black Box - Exploring How Users Make Sense of Fully Automated Vehicles

    Författare :Mikael Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Automated vehicles; Driving Automation; Meaning; Conceptual model; Make sense; Product semantics; Signifiers; Understanding;

    Sammanfattning : Vehicles are becoming increasingly automated. Already today vehicles are able to take over and assist the human driver in certain driving tasks, and the scope of technical possibilities is rapidly expanding. However, for the proliferation of AVs to occur, there are several challenges that must first be overcome. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Making Sense of Making Sense - Exploring users’ understanding of automated vehicles during use

    Författare :Mikael Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Automated vehicles; Driving automation; Make sense; Product semantics; Signifiers; Meaning; Conceptual model; Understanding;

    Sammanfattning : Automation has for a long time been embraced by the vehicle industry and in recent years, the amount and sophistication of automation in vehicles have rapidly increased, creating more advanced automated vehicle (AV) systems. The complexity of AVs does not only pose a technical challenge, but the entry of automation into vehicles also creates new dynamics in the human-vehicle interaction, that puts new demands on the user.
