1. Osteotropic cytokines : expression in human gingival fibroblasts and effects on bone
Sammanfattning : Bone metabolism is regulated by endocrine and paracrine signalling molecules influencing bone cells in the continuously remodelling bone tissue. These molecules include a variety of osteotropic stimulatory and inhibitory cytokines. LÄS MER
2. Dendritic cell maturation and death during Salmonella infection. Role of pro-inflammatory cytokines and MyD88
Sammanfattning : The costimulatory molecules CD80 and CD86 are required for the ability of dendritic cells (DC) to induce both tolerance and immunity. This thesis investigates the control of CD80/CD86 upregulation in vivo on DC during Salmonella infection. LÄS MER
3. Perinatal brain injury - markers and mediators. Non-protein-bound iron and pro-inflammatory cytokines in newborn infants and neonatal pigs
Sammanfattning : Two groups of newborn infants have an increased risk for perinatal brain injury; preterm infants and term infants subjected to birth asphyxia. Experimental studies indicate that hypoxic-ischemic insults in the perinatal period initiate a secondary neurotoxic cascade including formation of toxic reactive oxygen species as well as an inflammatory response with elevated levels of potentially neurotoxic cytokines. 4. Cytokines and immune balance in preeclampsia : a survey of some immunological variables and methods in the study of preeclampsia
Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is one of the most feared pregnancy complications, with a risk of maternal and fetal death and with no ideal therapy readily available. The cause of this strictly pregnancyrelated disease is still unknown and is therefore a great challenge to all researchers in the field of pregnancy-related pathophysiology. LÄS MER
5. Host cell responses to Helicobacter pylori secreted factors
Sammanfattning : The infection of the human gastric mucosa by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori can lead to the development of gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcers, and cancer. The factors that determine disease development in a small percentage of infected individuals are still not fully understood. LÄS MER
