  1. 6. Functional analysis of ATM with relevance for primary immunodeficiency and tumor formation

    Författare :Aleksi Lähdesmäki; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Ataxia-telangiectasia is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by cerebellar degeneration with ataxia, ocular and cutaneous telangiectasias, radiosensitivity, chromosomal instability, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition in both patients and heterozygous carriers of the gene. The gene responsible for the disorder, ATM, has been identified as a member of a family of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinaserelated genes and is one of the master controllers of the networks that are involved in cell cycle control and response to DNA damage. 2. 7. Germinal centers : why and why not? The humoral response in primary immunodeficiency

    Författare :Carin Dahlberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : An efficient and regulated immune system is required for protection against pathogens. B cells are required for a humoral response. For a sustained humoral response against pathogens germinal center (GC) reactions are required. In the GC reaction, B cells with antigen-specific B cell receptors are selected and expanded. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Novel genetic associations with common variable immunodeficiency

    Författare :Omar Khalid Sharif Alkhairy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is the most frequently encountered primary immunodeficiency disorder in clinical practice and is a cause of significant morbidity and mortality for patients. The main clinical features are hypogammaglobulinemia, recurrent infections and autoimmune disorders. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Learning from primary immunodeficiencies to treat cancer

    Författare :Mariana M S Oliveira; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system is a fine-tuned network of cells, tissues, organs and biological processes working together in order to protect our body. Immunodeficiency disorders occur when the body’s immune system is reduced or absent and can be characterized as primary, if the cause of disease is genetic; or secondary, if the cause of disease are extrinsic factors. 5. 10. Combination chemotherapy for human immunodeficiency virus infection

    Författare :Sarah Palmer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The worldwide spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has spurred the search for effective drugs to combat this deadly virus. The limited effect of monotherapy treatment, in large measure due to the development of drug resistant viral strains, has led to increased emphasis on combination chemotherapy for the treatment of HIV, the focus of this study.
