1. Protein stabilization. Some methods and mechanisms
Sammanfattning : The effect of different additives on protein stability was studied, and the basis for stabilization was investigated at molecular level. The addition of sorbitol enhanced thermal stability of hen egg white lysozyme in aqueous solution. LÄS MER
2. Photocatalytic TiO2 thin films for air cleaning : Effect of facet orientation, chemical functionalization, and reaction conditions
Sammanfattning : Poor indoor air quality is a source of adverse health effects. TiO2 coatings deposited on well-illuminated surfaces, such as window panes, can be used to fully mineralize indoor air pollutants by photocatalysis. LÄS MER
3. Oxygen Induced High Temperature Crack Growth in Ni-base Superalloys
Sammanfattning : Oxygen induced crack growth is a serious concern for the performance of Ni-base superalloys. These alloys are used in gas-turbine engines where they are exposed to hightemperatures, mechanical loads and oxygen-rich environments. LÄS MER
4. In vitro and in vivo oxidation of diastereomers of lignin models of arylgylcerol b-aryl ether type and heterologous expression of laccase
Sammanfattning : Enzymic and non-enzymic oxidation of lignin models of the arylglycerol β-aryl ether type was investigated in experiments aimed at providing a better understanding of the initial phase of biological lignin degradation. Product profiles and diasteromer selectivity were determined to gain knowledge of the properties of the oxidants and pave the way for evaluation of the presence of the oxidants in ligninolytic fungal cultures. 5. Numerical Investigations on Debris Bed Coolability and Mitigation Measures in Nordic Boiling Water Reactors
Sammanfattning : This thesis is aiming at coolability assessment of particulate debris beds formed in hypothetical severe accidents of Nordic boiling water reactors (BWRs) which may employ either lower drywell flooding or control rod guide tubes (CRGT) cooling as severe accident management strategies. For this purpose, quench and cooling limit (dryout) of debris beds after their formation from fuel coolant interactions were investigated by numerical simulations using the MEWA code. LÄS MER
