1. Risk Estimation and Prediction of Preeclampsia, IUGR, and Thrombosis in Pregnancy
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to improve background knowledge for making a reliable medical evaluation at the first visit of a woman in her 13th gestational week, to the antenatal clinic. We have focused on the prediction and the risk estimation of preeclampsia, intra-uterine growth restriction (IUGR), and thrombosis. LÄS MER
2. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY
Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 3. Blood pressure, renal functional and structural changes, in normal and preeclamptic pregnancy
Sammanfattning : The kidneys play a pivotal role in the adaptive physiology of the pregnant woman, presenting some changes at term similar to the changes found in preeclampsia – a state of increased risk of fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. The aim of these investigations was to explore possible similarities in blood pressure regulation, renal function and structure in normal term and preeclamptic pregnancy, to ascertain whether both conditions in fact are different degrees of an adaptive process in reaction to pregnancy. 4. Exposure to air pollution during pregnancy and health risks for mother and child
Sammanfattning : We had in the present thesis the unique possibility to use, in a socio-economically relatively homogenous population, high quality registry information on a population-based birth cohort (84 039 births during the period 1999-2005) in Scania (Skåne), the most Southern county of Sweden. The aim of the thesis was to investigate whether exposure to air pollution, in an area of low-levels exposures, during different periods of the pregnancy was associated with birth outcomes, pregnancy complications and risk of the child to develop type I diabetes (T1D). 5. Polycystic ovary syndrome and pregnancy complications : Focus on hyperandrogenism and comorbidity
Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder among women, affecting their lives in many ways. PCOS is characterised by ovulatory dysfunction, polycystic ovary morphology and hyperandrogenism, either clinical or biochemical. Women with PCOS face a higher risk of obstetric complications than women without PCOS. LÄS MER
