16. Tryptophan-related Neurotransmission in the Brain: Disturbances Associated with Experimental Hepatic Encephalopathy
Sammanfattning : In the present study, L-tryptophan (TRP)-related disturbances in the brain in experimental hepatic encephalopathy (HE) were investigated. The endogenous NMDA-receptor agonist and L-TRP metabolite quinolinic acid (QUIN) has been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of HE. LÄS MER
17. Mechanisms of Brain Damage Following Focal Cerebral Ischemia: Changes in Ion Homeostasis and the Importance of Free Radical Formation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis mechanisms of neuronal damage were investigated in an experimental stroke model i.e focal ischemia. The influence of SD-induced calcium transients on neuronal damage were studied in animals with reduced energy supply. LÄS MER
18. Phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge fluidized bed gasification processes
Sammanfattning : One of the most sustainable pathways of sewage sludge treatment in recent years has been thermal conversion. The benefits of thermal treatment of sewage sludge are the recovery of energy or valuable chemical products, the destruction of harmful organic compounds, the separation of heavy metals from the P-rich coarse ash fraction, and the decreased and sanitized ash volume. 19. Studies of ash transformation processes in thermochemical co-conversion of phosphorus-rich manure and sludge with biomass residues
Sammanfattning : Efficient use of resources and sustainable recovery of various materials are important to minimize the anthropogenic impact on the climate and environment. One such resource is the phosphorus (P) present in manure and sewage sludge. LÄS MER
20. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry
Sammanfattning : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately.
