11. Population Genetics of Human Genomic Elements
Sammanfattning : The genomes of living organisms are composed of a multitude of functional units, which interact with each other and their environment in a highly regulated fashion, to facilitate the expression of an enduring (and evolving) phenotype. Several approaches have emerged in the effort to identify these functional units and explore their activities. LÄS MER
12. Modelling animal populations
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers, three papers about modelling animal populations and one paper about an area integral estimate for solutions of partial differential equations on non-smooth domains. The papers are: I. Å. Brännström, Single species population models from first principles. LÄS MER
13. Brain tumors in children - National population-based studies on classification, diagnostics and long-term follow-up
Sammanfattning : Although the prognosis for pediatric tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) has improved over time it is urgent to reduce mortality and improve long-term quality of life for survivors. With this aim, the first step is to identify the correct diagnosis in order to choose the right therapy and avoid unnecessary treatment. LÄS MER
14. Bloom dynamics and population genetics of marine phytoplankton - Community, species and population aspects
Sammanfattning : Phytoplankton are the most important primary producers in the world’s oceans and coastal waters, accounting for nearly half of the global net primary production. Although they are such important organisms, little is known about the ecology and dynamics of phytoplankton. LÄS MER
15. Urban Sweden : changes in the distribution of population
Sammanfattning : In the 1960s and the early 1970s a lively discussion took place in Sweden about the role of the metropolitan areas in the urbanization process. The debate disclosed our limited knowledge of the spatial anatomy of urban Sweden; it became obvious that a better understanding of the pattern of population change in both metropolitan and in non-metropolitan areas was needed.
