21. Peripheral neuropathy in Lyme borreliosis
Sammanfattning : Tick-transmitted Lyme borreliosis (LB) is frequently associated with manifestations from the peripheral nervous system. One aim of the thesis was to describe the relationship between peripheral neuropathy and LB by prospective studies of a) LB in some defined neurological conditions with peripheral nerve engagement and b) peripheral neuropathy in the late dermatological LB manifestation acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans (ACA). 22. Modeling Amyloid Disease in Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : Amyloid diseases are caused by protein misfolding and aggregation. To date there are 27 known proteins causing amyloid disorders involving brain and peripheral protein deposition. The proteins involved in this mechanism do not share sequence homology, but the amyloid fibrils share biophysical properties and possibly a common pathogenic mechanism. LÄS MER
23. Muscle function in the critically ill : clinical and experimental investigations
Sammanfattning : It is common that critically ill patients develop muscle weakness in the intensive care unit (ICU), not only delaying mobilisation and increasing the risk of co-morbidities, but also prolonging rehabilitation after hospital care. The aim of this thesis was to describe the diagnosis, time course and possible risk factors for this weakness. LÄS MER
24. Potential role of anti-cytokine autoantibodies in the regulation of cytokine responses in infections and autoimmune diseases
Sammanfattning : Anti-cytokine autoantibodies are serum proteins that bind cytokines and specifically interfere with measurements and biological activities of the corresponding cytokines. Plasma, sera, and CSF were obtained from patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), aseptic meningitis (AM), stroke (ST), and polyneuropathy, Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS). LÄS MER
25. Dynamic posturography in evaluating human equilibrium
Sammanfattning : Equilibrium assessment by means of posturography can be performed ina dynamic fashion, meaning that the environment does not remainstable during the test. In the EquiTest dynamic posturography version, the support surface and the visual surround are movable, actively or in response to body movements. LÄS MER
