16. Cemented Carbide Sintering : Constitutive Relations and Microstructural Evolution
Sammanfattning : Cemented carbides based on tungsten carbide and cobalt arecommonly produced by a powder metallurgy route including liquidphase sintering. The pressed compact densifies to almost halfits volume during sintering due to pore elimination. LÄS MER
17. Modelling the microstructure, the mechanical response of rock material and the relationship between them
Sammanfattning : Rock material heterogeneity is one of most important intrinsic properties of geological materials. The need to quantify and model this heterogeneity is a key point for the prediction of the rock fragmentation behaviour through simulation. In this thesis both microstructure and mechanical heterogeneity are analysed. LÄS MER
18. Materials for advanced energy technology from quantum-mechanical modeling
Sammanfattning : The present thesis addresses promising material solutions for fusion reactors from a theoretical point of view. We focus on two specific systems: W-based alloys used as plasma-facing materials and reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM, Ferich) steels used as structural materials of breeding-blanket. 19. Microcracking in fiber composites and degradation of thermo-elastic properties of laminates
Sammanfattning : The macroscopic failure of composite laminates subjected to tensile increasing load is preceded by initiation and evolution of several microdamage modes. The most common damage mode and the one examined in this thesis is intralaminar cracking in layers. LÄS MER
20. Strength and deformability of fractured rocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a systematic numerical modeling framework to simulate the stress-deformation and coupled stress-deformation-flow processes by performing uniaxial and biaxial compressive tests on fractured rock models with considering the effects of different loading conditions, different loading directions (anisotropy), and coupled hydro-mechanical processes for evaluating strength and deformability behavior of fractured rocks. By using code UDEC of discrete element method (DEM), a series of numerical experiments were conducted on discrete fracture network models (DFN) at an established representative elementary volume (REV), based on realistic geometrical and mechanical data of fracture systems from field mapping at Sellafield, UK.
