1. Plasmin : a potent pro-inflammatory factor
Sammanfattning : Plasmin, the central molecule of the plasminogen activator system, is a broad-spectrum serine protease. Plasmin is important for the degradation of fibrin and other components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) during a number of physiological and pathological processes. LÄS MER
2. Multifunctional roles of plasmin in inflammation : Studies of animal models on rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, wound healing and infection
Sammanfattning : Plasmin has been suggested to be involved in degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and tissue remodeling during a number of physiological and pathological processes. The aims of this thesis were to study the functional roles of plasmin during pathological inflammation in autoimmune and nonautoimmune disease models of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis (MS), wound healing and infection. 3. Plasminogen and protein PAM: Interactions between streptococcal surface proteins and the human fibrinolytic system
Sammanfattning : Pathogenic bacteria often produce potent proteases capable of destroying host tissue thereby providing the bacteria with tools for spreading and nutrient access. This thesis describes how group A, C and G streptococci can acquire surface bound protease activity through an alternative mechanism, namely by binding and activation of the human protease precursor plasminogen. 4. The significance of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA) in tumour growth and Linomide-induced upregulation of u-PA's endogenous inhibitor PAI-2
Sammanfattning : The progressive process of tumour invasion and generation of metastases is the primary cause of death for most patients with cancer. Some of the regulatory components of this progressive process are adhesion, migration, and proteolysis. LÄS MER
5. Antiplasmin the main plasmin inhibitor in blood plasma : studies on structure-function relationships
Sammanfattning : Antiplasmin is an important regulator of the fibrinolytic system. It inactivates plasmin very rapidly. The reaction between plasmin and antiplasmin occurs in several steps: first a lysine-binding site in plasmin interacts with a complementary site in antiplasmin. LÄS MER
