  1. 1. Advanced Fluorescence Microscopy to Study Plasma Membrane Protein Dynamics

    Författare :Joachim Piguet; Horst Vogel; Ruud Hovius; Jerker Widengren; Antoine Triller; Switzerland Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL); []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; microscopy; plasma membrane; membrane proteins; membrane proteins diffusion; single-molecule imaging; single-molecule tracking; pentameric ligand-gated ion channels; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; serotonin receptor; synapse; neuromuscular junction; post-synaptic scaffold; rapsyn; myopathies; fluorescent proteins; Förster resonance energy transfer; FRET imaging; protein-protein interactions; protein trafficking; photo-activatable proteins; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane protein dynamics is of great importance for living organisms. The precise localization of proteins composing a synapse on the membrane facing a nerve terminus is essential for proper functioning of the nervous system. In muscle fibers, the nicotinic acetylcholine is densely packed under the motor nerve termini. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Plasma membrane arabinogalactan proteins

    Författare :Lars Snogerup; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; arabinogalactan protein plant development cell-cell interaction plasma membrane; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) are proteoglycans found at the outer side of the plasma membrane and in the extracellular matrix of plants. To be able to study the plasma membrane bound AGPs, a method using SDS-agarose gel electrophoresis (SDS-AGE) was developed to overcome the problems associated with electrophoretic separation of highly glycosylated proteins. 3. 3. Structure and distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin proteins

    Författare :Tord Berggård; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteins; lysine; chromophore; placenta; immunohistochemistry; albumin; prothrombin; plasma; bikunin; lipocalin; alpha-1-microglobulin; protein HC; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies of the structure and tissue distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin (a1-m), a member of the lipocalin protein superfamily with immunosuppressive properies. It was shown that a1-m appears in human plasma in five major forms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structure and organization of genes for the predominant seminal plasma proteins semenogelin I, semenogelin II and beta-microseminoprotein

    Författare :Magnus Ulvsbäck; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; transglutaminase substrate; semen coagulation; prostate; seminal vesicles; seminal plasma; rhesus monkey; human; evolution; nucleic acid sequence; cDNA; gene; semenogelin; b-microseminoprotein; Klinisk kemi; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : In man, the predominant proteins in the seminal plasma include semenogelin I, semenogelin II and b-microseminoprotein (MSP). Semenogelin I and II are both synthesized in the seminal vesicles and are the backbone of the gel formed upon semen coagulation. MSP is synthesized in the prostate, but its role has not yet been defined. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Antimicrobial activity of human seminal plasma and seminal plasma proteins

    Författare :Anneli Edström; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; semenogelin; antibacterial peptides; antifungal peptides; seminal plasma; antimicrobial peptides; vaginal pH; beta-microseminoprotein; peptides;

    Sammanfattning : Seminal plasma is semen without the spermatozoa. Human seminal plasma is a complex mixture of secretions from the sex accessory glands, mainly the seminal vesicles and the prostate. Seminal plasma has high protein content and it also contains ions, sugars and low molecular weight components. LÄS MER
