1. Rosetta Observations of Plasma and Dust at Comet 67P
Sammanfattning : In-situ observations of cometary plasma are not made because they are easy. The historic ESA Rosetta mission was launched in 2004 and traversed space for ten years before arriving at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, which it studied in unprecedented detail for two years. LÄS MER
2. Material migration in tokamaks: Studies of deposition processes and characterisation of dust particles
Sammanfattning : Thermonuclear fusion may become an attractive future power source. The most promising of all fusion machine concepts is the tokamak. Despite decades of active research, still huge tasks remain before a fusion power plant can go online. One of these important tasks deals with the interaction between the fusion plasma and the reactor wall. LÄS MER
3. Plasma and dust interaction in the magnetosphere of Saturn
Sammanfattning : The Cassini spacecraft orbits Saturn since 2004, carrying a multitude of instruments for studies of the plasma environment around the planet as well as the constituents of the ring system. Of particular interest to the present thesis is the large E ring, which consists mainly of water ice grains, smaller than a few micrometres, referred to as dust. LÄS MER
4. The Klimontovich description of complex plasma systems : Low frequency electrostatic modes, spectral densities of fluctuations and collision integrals
Sammanfattning : Plasmas seeded with solid particulates of nanometer to micron sizes (complex plasma systems) are a ubiquitous feature of intergalactic, interstellar and planetary environments but also of plasma processing applications or even fusion devices. Their novel aspects compared with ideal multi-component plasmas stem from (i) the large number of elementary charges residing on the grain surface, (ii) the variability of the charge over mass ratio of the dust component, (iii) the inherent openness and dissipative nature of such systems. 5. Modelling the multifaceted physics of metallic dust and droplets in fusion plasmas
Sammanfattning : Plasma-material interaction constitutes one of the major scientific and technological issues affecting the development of thermonuclear fusion power plants. In particular, the release of metallic dust and droplets from plasmafacing components is a crucial aspect of reactor operation. LÄS MER
