  1. 1. ABA and chromatin remodelling regulate the activity-dormancy cycle in hybrid aspen

    Författare :Anna Petterle; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most important survival strategies plants have evolved is the cessation of growth and development of dormancy in response to the seasonal changes. Apical meristems of deciduous woody plants living in temperate and boreal zones undergo a yearly cycle between an active and a dormant state, which allows them to protect the meristem and avoid damage provoked by extremes of low temperatures during the winter. 2. 2. Understanding the Molecular Basis of Differential Growth during Apical Hook Development

    Författare :Kristoffer Jonsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Plants’ adaptation to their environment often involves change in development, which in many cases involves the establishment of differential growth rates across organs, for instance during phototropic and gravitropic responses. A striking example of differential growth is the formation of the apical hook, a structure that forms to protect the apical meristem as seedlings penetrate through soil. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Exploiting plant defenses to protect conifer seedlings against pine weevils

    Författare :Yayuan Chen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Sweden is one of the top five countries having large planted forest areas, and here the forests are maintained by clear-cut regime, which also promotes the pine weevil (Hylobius abietis), a major threat to Swedish planted coniferous regeneration. Given interest in developing sustainable forest management practices, efficient non-insecticide alternatives are highly demanded to tackle the pine weevil problem. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Monitoring climate and plant physiology using deuterium isotopomers of carbohydrates

    Författare :Angela Augusti; Jürgen Schleucher; Vaughan Hurry; Howard Griffiths; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate reconstruction; deuterium; elevated CO2; isotopomer; nuclear magnetic resonance; photorespiration; tree-ring cellulose.; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Climate is changing and it is certain that this change is due to human activities. Atmospheric greenhouse gases have been rising in an unprecedented way during the last two centuries, although the land biosphere has dampened their increase by absorbing CO2 emitted by anthropogenic activities. 5. 5. Plant resistance ecology - the role of resistance in plant-insect mutualisms

    Författare :Daniela Weber; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Global food security is largely dependent on the use of synthetic pesticides for pest control. This extensive reliance on pesticides, however, has promoted widespread loss of insect diversity; thereby jeopardizing the provision of insect ecosystem services like pollination and biological control.
