  1. 21. Seawater pH as a Controlling Factor in Macroalgal Calcification and Photosynthesis

    Författare :Immaculate Sware Semesi; Mats Björk; Sven Beer; O. P. Rui Santos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Calcareous macroalgae; CO2; mussels; pH; seagrasses; tropical lagoons; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biological calcification and photosynthesis are important processes with a great influence on both structure and function of oceanic ecosystems. The pH of the seawater has a strong influence on both these processes and therefore the impacts of different pH levels on calcareous macroalgae were investigated in laboratory and field experiments at Chwaka and Fumba Bays in Zanzibar, Tanzania. 2. 22. Functional genomics of the Baltic Sea cyanobacterium Nodularia spumigena in relation to nitrogen fixation, heterocyst differentiation and toxin production

    Författare :Simina Vintila; Rehab El-Shehawy; Peter Lindblad; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cyanobacteria; Nodularia; nitrogen fixation; heterocyst; nitrogenase; ammonium; phosphate; nodularin; Baltic Sea; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nodularia spumigena is a filamentous, heterocystous cyanobacterium that dominates the annual, toxic cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea. The blooms are believed to have increased in recent years, due to eutrophication by phosphate and/or nitrogen. Toxicity of these blooms is well-documented and attributed to the hepatotoxin nodularin. 4. 24. Floating treatment wetlands for stormwater management : Plant species selection and influence of external factors for heavy metal and chloride removal in a cold climate

    Författare :Maria Schück; Maria Greger; Hans Brix; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Floating treatment wetlands; Phytodesalination; Rhizofiltration; Phytoremediation; Stormwater; Heavy metals; Chloride; Plant traits; Carex riparia; Carex pseudocyperus; Phalaris arundinacea; Flytande våtmarker; dagvatten; tungmetaller; klorid; fytoremediering; slokstarr; rörflen; jättestarr; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Stormwater, which consists of rainwater and snowmelt, often contains pollutants from vehicle traffic, building materials, and industries. These pollutants include chloride and heavy metals, which can cause several environmental issues, such as being toxic to biota at elevated concentrations. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Sphagnum limits : Physiology, morphology and climate

    Författare :Charles Campbell; Håkan Rydin; Gustaf Granath; Sebastian Sundberg; Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sphagnum; ecology; bryophyte; winter; species distribution models; low temperature; plant structure; water economy; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Sphagnum is the most important plant genus in terms of terrestrial carbon cycling. It and the habitats it creates store an equivalent of ~68% of the CO2 in the atmosphere. The genus has little dispersal limitation and the mire habitats are functionally similar at global scales. LÄS MER
