  1. 1. Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Abnormal Placentation in the Mouse

    Författare :Yang Yu; Reinald H. Fundele; Rolf Ohlsson; J. GRAHAM BURTON; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; IUGR; Placental phenotype; Placental hyperplasia; Diabetes; IHPD; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Placental development can be disturbed by various factors, such as mutation of specific genes or maternal diabetes. Our previous work on interspecies hybrid placental dysplasia (IHPD) and two additional models of placental hyperplasia, cloned mice and Esx1 mutants, showed that many genes are deregulated in placental dysplasia. 2. 2. Immunomodulation during human pregnancy : placental exosomes as vehicles of immune suppression

    Författare :Ann-Christin Stenqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Maria Jenmalm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exosomes; microvesicles; pregnancy; placenta; syncytiotrophoblast; immune privilege; apoptosis; cytotoxicity; T regulatory cells; NKG2D; MICA B; FasL; TRAIL; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The mammalian pregnancy comprises a challenge to the maternal immune system since the fetus is semi-allogeneic and could thus be rejected. Pregnancy success is associated with the placenta that is not only essential for oxygen supply, nourishment and pregnancy hormones but also plays a role in the protection of the fetus against maternal immunologic attack. 3. 3. New Functions for Old Genes in the Mouse Placenta

    Författare :Umashankar Singh; Reinald Fundele; Anne C Ferguson-Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Developmental biology; hybrid dysgenesis effects; placental hyperplasia; functional screening; giant cell; glycogen cell; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Different species are separated by pre-zygotic reproductive barriers which impede gene flow between them. Rarely, when pre-zygotic barriers break down, interspecific hybrids are produced that display abnormal phenotypes, collectively called hybrid dysgenesis effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cytokines and lipids in pregnancy – effects on developmental programming and placental nutrient transfer

    Författare :Susanne Lager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipose tissue; amino acids; cytokines; developmental programming; free fatty acids; insulin resistance; interleukin-6; lipoprotein lipase; nutrient transport; placenta; toll-like receptor 4;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic disturbances, in particular those associated with nutritional challenges, that take place during development, both in utero and early postnatal life, have long-lasting health consequences on an individual. The most pronounced evidence of these challenges is a deviation in birth weight. LÄS MER

  5. 5. HIV-1 infection during pregnancy and in children : significance of HIV-1 variability and the placental barrier

    Författare :Charlotte Casper; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :biological phenotype; genetic subtype; chemokine receptor; coreceptor; mother- to-child transmission; placenta; disease progression; child; pregnancy;

    Sammanfattning : With the global increase in human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infection in women of childbearing age, there has also been an alarming increase in the number of mother-to-child transmissions of HIV-1. Although antiretroviral therapy and Cesarian section have been demonstrated to significantly decrease the vertical transmission rate of, these interventions are not widely available in the developing world.
