  1. 6. The Role of Mammalian Target of Rapamycin in the Regulation of Amino Acid Transporters in the Human Placenta

    Författare :Sara Roos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :amino acids; fetal growth restriction; human; mammalian target of rapamycin; membrane transporters; metabolism; placenta; pregnancy; system A; system L; taurine transporter;

    Sammanfattning : Abnormal fetal growth, which is associated with both perinatal morbidity as well as metabolic diseases in adulthood, is an important clinical problem affecting as many as 15% of all pregnancies. However, to this date, there is no specific treatment of this condition. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Investigating the source of free fetal hemoglobin in preeclampsia. The role of the placenta and the fetus

    Författare :Zahra Masoumi; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :Preeclampsia pregnancy; Placenta; Umbilical cord blood; Fetal erythropoiesis; Non-erythroid globin;

    Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia (PE) is an important pregnancy complication that affects 3-8% of women worldwide and is a leading cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It is known that PE is associated with placental dysfunction, resulting in hypoxia, oxidative stress, altered metabolism and production of inflammatory cytokines. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Transport of sodium and protons in the human placenta. Mechanisms in normal pregnancy and alterations in intrauterine growth restriction

    Författare :Martin Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; placenta; Na K ATPase; Na H exchanger; H K ATPase; intrauterine growth restriction; BeWo cells; epithelial transport;

    Sammanfattning : The syncytiotrophoblast cell of the human placenta represents the interface between maternal and fetal blood supplies. This polarized epithelium consists of a maternal facing microvillous membrane (MVM) opposing a fetal facing basal membrane (BM). This unique syncytial cell is responsible for transfer of all nutrients to the developing fetus. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Gene expression of inflammatory markers and growth factors in placenta in relation to maternal obesity and foetal and postnatal growth

    Författare :Marianne Allbrand; Jan Åman; Kerstin Nilsson; Maria Lodefalk; Stefan Hansson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; obesity; pregnancy; placenta; gene expression; cytokines;

    Sammanfattning : Maternal obesity is a growing health problem, that contributes to obstetrical complications in pregnancy, as well as neonatal morbidity and mortality. The placenta serves for gas and nutrient exchange between the mother and the foetus, and obesity may influence and modify placental growth and function. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Structure and distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin proteins

    Författare :Tord Berggård; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteins; lysine; chromophore; placenta; immunohistochemistry; albumin; prothrombin; plasma; bikunin; lipocalin; alpha-1-microglobulin; protein HC; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies of the structure and tissue distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin (a1-m), a member of the lipocalin protein superfamily with immunosuppressive properies. It was shown that a1-m appears in human plasma in five major forms. LÄS MER
