  1. 11. Placental LPL and glucose metabolism in complicated pregnancies

    Författare :AnneLiese Magnusson-Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :placenta; intrauterine growth restriction; insulin dependent diabetes mellitus; lipoprotein lipase; fatty acids; fatty acid binding proteins; cytotrophoblasts;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) or diabetes are associated with alterations in both lipid and glucose metabolism, which may lead to long lasting metabolic disturbances in the fetus and susceptibility for developing metabolic syndrome in postnatal life. Glucose is the major energy source for both the fetus and placenta. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Experimental and Clinical Studies of Oxidative Stress in Pre-Eclampsia

    Författare :Peppi Nash; Ulf Eriksson; Matts Olovsson; Leif Jansson; Lucilla Poston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Obstetrics and gynaecology; Pre-eclampsia; Oxidative stress; Diabetes; Placenta; Rat; Antioxidants; Suramin; Vitamin E; Vitamin C; PAI-1; PAI-2; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Impaired placentation and oxidative stress are proposed to play major roles in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia (PE). It has recently been pointed out that PE might be more than one disease and may have several different pathogeneses. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Nitric oxide synthase in female reproductive and urinary organs: Hormonal regulation and functional significance

    Författare :Jassim Al-Hijji; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; estrogen; trophoblast; placenta; vagina; Nitric oxide; uterus; ovarian steroids; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Maternal and neonatal metabolomes and their associations to immune maturation and allergy in early life

    Författare :Olle Hartvigsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Untargeted Metabolomics; allergy; QC; quality control; plasma; umbilical cord; placenta; LC-MS; immune system;

    Sammanfattning : Allergy, one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide, is caused by a dysregulated immune system reacting to normally harmless proteins. However, regulating mechanisms are not well understood. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if plasma and placenta metabolites associate prospectively to allergy development and immune maturation. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Monoamine transporters in female human reproduction

    Författare :Barbara Bottalico; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PMAT; VMAT2; OCT; NET; in-situ hybridization histochemistry; decidualization; human endometrium; placenta; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Monoamine transporters; preeclampsia; histamine; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : The present study explored the gene and protein expression of the monoamine transporters in human endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle, in early decidua and in placentas from normal as well as preeclamptic pregnancies using in-situ hybridization, real time-PCR, immunohistochemistry and primary tissue cultures. Four distinguishable patterns were observed in the endometrium over the menstrual cycle: (1) epithelial expression of norepinephrine transporter (NET) mRNA, (2) Stromal co- expression of vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) and plasma membrane monoamine transporter (PMAT) mRNAs with maximal intensity in the proliferative phase; (3) increasing epithelial expression of VMAT2 mRNA with a maximum in the late secretory phase; (4) stromal expression of extra-neuronal monoamine transporter (EMT) mRNA with a peak in the early secretory phase.
