  1. 6. Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme : Effects of Smoking and Other Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Diseases

    Författare :Liza Ljungberg; Karin Persson; Rolf Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the most common cause of death in Western countries. Smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia are considered as major risk factors. However, the underlying mechanisms by which these factors cause CVDs are not entirely clear. 2. 7. High fiber rye foods decrease body weight and body fat and affect metabolic risk markers

    Författare :Kia Noehr Iversen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; randomized controlled trial; wheat; metabolic risk factors; human nutrition; appetite; whole grain; rye; dietary fiber; gut microbiota; weight loss; cereals;

    Sammanfattning : Overweight and obesity are major risk factors for development of non-communicable diseases, such as type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and increase the risk of early mortality. Diet and food consumption are among the most important factors in preventing and reversing overweight, obesity and their comorbidities. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Surviving under water : Physiological limitations and technical possibilities

    Författare :Mårten Silvanius; Oskar Frånberg; Rachel Lance; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diving; diving apparatus; unmanned testing; hyperbaric; scuba; oxygen sensor; composite gas cylinder; carbon dioxide monitoring; decompression; hyperbaric oxygen therapy; Systemteknik; Systems Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The survival of humans in underwater environments necessitates a comprehensive understanding of both physiological factors and advanced technologies. Diving with self-contained underwater breathing apparatuses (SCUBA) remains one of the most common ways for human underwater activities. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Human response to wind turbine noise : perception, annoyance and moderating factors

    Författare :Eja Pedersen; Sten Ljunggren; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Noise; Environmental exposure; Wind; Audio-visual interaction; Low-level noise exposure; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; wind turbines; noise annoyance; sound perception; audio-visual interaction; low-level noise exposure;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to describe and gain an understanding of how people who live in the vicinity of wind turbines are affected by wind turbine noise, and how individual, situational and visual factors, as well as sound properties, moderate the response.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a flat, mainly rural area in Sweden, with the objective to estimate the prevalence of noise annoyance and to examine the dose-response relationship between A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) and perception of and annoyance with wind turbine noise. 5. 10. Hypoxic Blackout in Serial Freediving – Protective Mechanisms and Risk Factors

    Författare :Frank Pernett; Erika Schagatay; Glenn Björklund; Anton Westman; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breath-hold diving; diving response; hyperventilation; hypoxia; oxygen saturation; oxygen stores; pulse oximetry; sonography; splenic contraction.;

    Sammanfattning : Breath-hold diving or freediving exposes the body to stressors such as low oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels in the blood, increased hydrostatic pressure, and cold. The reduction in blood oxygen levels is considered a primary factor for loss of consciousness while diving. This is known as hypoxic blackout. LÄS MER
