11. Proliferation resistances of Generation IV recycling facilities for nuclear fuel
Sammanfattning : The effects of global warming raise demands for reduced CO2 emissions, whereas at the same time the world’s need for energy increases. With the aim to resolve some of the difficulties facing today’s nuclear power, striving for safety, sustainability and waste minimization, a new generation of nuclear energy systems is being pursued: Generation IV. 12. Surface coatings as xenon diffusion barriers on plastic scintillators : Improving Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty verification
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the ability of transparent surface coatings to reduce xenon diffusion into plastic scintillators. The motivation for the work is improved radioxenon monitoring equipment, used with in the framework of the verification regime of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. LÄS MER
13. Improving the Neutron Cross-section Standards 238U(n,f) and 6Li(n,a) : Measurements and Simulations
Sammanfattning : Improving or extending the range of cross-section standards, which in general are believed to be well known, require good control of the experimental conditions and the uncertainties involved. Two experiments that aspire to improve two different neutron cross-section standards, 238U(n,f) and 6Li(n,a, are presented in this thesis. LÄS MER
14. Making TOFu : Fusion Plasma Neutron Emission Spectrometry with a Fully Digital Data Acquisition System
Sammanfattning : TOFu (Time-Of-Flight upgrade) is a fully digital data acquisition system based on 1 GSPS, 12 bit digitisers for the TOFOR (Time-Of-Flight spectrometer Optimised for Rate) fusion neutron spectrometer at JET. The system has been assessed, developed and subsequently tested during experimental campaigns at JET. LÄS MER
15. Experimental methods of neutron diagnostics and fast ion physics for fusion devices
Sammanfattning : Measurements of the neutron emission resulting from nuclear fusion reactions provide an abundance of information on the underlying spatial, temporal and energetic distributions of reacting ions and how they are affected by a wide range of MagnetoHydroDynamic (MHD) instabilities. This thesis focuses on studies of the neutron emission and fast ion physics at the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak (MAST), its upgrade MAST-U, the Joint European Torus (JET) and the Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT).
