21. Evolution and Ecology of AhR genes in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.)
Sammanfattning : In vertebrates, studies of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) have been of particular interest due to its direct involvement in the toxic effects exerted by several environmental pollutants, such as PCB and dioxin. After binding to the toxic molecule, this receptor initiates transcription of several genes that are part of the biotransformation battery but most notably the cytochrome P450 (CYP) genes, which results in an excessive release of oxidative enzymes and free radicals. 22. Environmental sequencing to infer patterns of eukaryotic evolution : Combining long-read and short-read metabarcoding
Sammanfattning : Our view of eukaryotes is biased towards plants, animals, and fungi. But the vast majority of eukaryotic diversity is microbial in nature. These microbial eukaryotes are key players in all ecosystems on earth and are collectively known as protists. LÄS MER
23. Evolution of Vertebrate Vision by Means of Whole Genome Duplications : Zebrafish as a Model for Gene Specialisation
Sammanfattning : The signalling cascade of rods and cones use different but related protein components. Rods and cones, emerged in the common ancestor of vertebrates around 500 million years ago around when two whole genome duplications took place, named 1R and 2R. LÄS MER
24. Probabilistic Reconciliation Analysis for Genes and Pseudogenes
Sammanfattning : Phylogeneticists have studied the evolution of life from single celled organisms to the astonishing biodiversity around us for a long time now. The relationship between species is often expressed as a binary tree - the tree of life. LÄS MER
25. Exploration of microbial diversity and evolution through cultivation independent phylogenomics
Sammanfattning : Our understanding of microbial evolution is largely dependent on available genomic data of diverse organisms. Yet, genome-sequencing efforts have mostly ignored the diverse uncultivable majority in favor of cultivable and sociologically relevant organisms. LÄS MER
