  1. 1. Atomic Scale Design of Clean Energy Materials : Efficient Solar Energy Conversion and Gas Sensing

    Författare :Jawad Nisar; Rajeev Ahuja; Puru Jena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysts; Band gap narrowing; Water dissociation; Density functional theory; Gas sensing; Kaolinite; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this doctoral thesis is the atomic level design of photocatalysts and gas sensing materials. The band gap narrowing in the metal oxides for the visible-light driven photocatalyst as well as the interaction of water and gas molecules on the reactive surfaces of metal oxides and the electronic structure of kaolinite has been studied by the state-of-art calculations.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; graphitic carbon nitride; visible light-driven photocatalyst; staggered band alignment; electron-hole pair separation; band edge position; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : As a potential solution to the global energy and environmental pollution, design and synthesis of artificial photocatalysts with high activities have attracted increasing scientific interests worldwide. In recent years, the graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has shown new possible applications in the photocatalytic field due to its unique properties. LÄS MER

  3. 3. MECHANISMS OF ENHANCED ACTIVITY OF MODEL TiO2/CARBON and TiO2/METAL NANOCOMPOSITE PHOTOCATALYSTS

    Författare :Raja Sellappan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysis; graphite; solar energy conversion; graphene; localized surface plasmon resonance; photocatalytic mechanisms; nanocomposites; TiO2; carbon;

    Sammanfattning : TiO2 is the most widely used photocatalyst for energy and environmental applications because of its outstanding physical and chemical properties. However, the quantum efficiency of TiO2 is greatly diminished by fast electron-hole pairs recombination and light absorption only in the UV region. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structure, dynamics and reactivity of low-oxidation state iron complexes in solution studied by ab initio molecular dynamics simulations and advanced quantum chemistry calculations

    Författare :Michael R. Coates; Michael Odelius; Bo Durbeej; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Third row (3d) metals, such as iron have become a candidate for a broad class of photocatalysts that have a large abundance on Earth and a low toxicity to humans and the environment. Unlike many commonly used photocatalysts that contain expensive precious metals, iron is cheap. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aqueous Exfoliation of Transition Metal Oxides for Energy Storage and Photocatalysis Applications : Vanadium Oxide and Molybdenum Oxide Nanosheets

    Författare :Ahmed S. Etman; Junliang Sun; Yury Gogotsi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aqueous exfoliation; vanadium oxide nanosheets; molybdenum oxide nanosheets; energy storage; photocatalysis; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal oxides (TMOs) are a category of materials which have unique physical and chemical properties compared to their bulk counterparts. However, the synthesis of 2D TMOs commonly includes the use of environmental threats such as organic solvents. LÄS MER
