  1. 1. Signaling via Orexin Receptors : A Pharmacological Study

    Författare :Tomas Holmqvist; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Gunnar Flemström; Per Svenningsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; orexin; receptors; calcium; cAMP; adenylyl cyclases; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The orexin receptors are a pair of newly discovered G-protein coupled receptors which are activated by the neuropeptides orexins and play a role in sleep/vigilance, apetite/metabolism and neuroendocrine regulation. On a cellular level receptor activation results in, to name but a few effects, elevation of intracellular calcium and depolarisation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bioactive Lipids in Nociception

    Författare :Anna Ermund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :Cannabinoids; Anandamide; AM404; 2-Arachidonoylglycerol; Acetaminophen; Cyclooxygenase; Nocicieption; TRPV1;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on bioactive lipids as (1) metabolites of the widely used antipyretic and analgesic drug acetaminophen and (2) activators of the ion channel TRPV1, an important downstream target for inflammatory mediators, in the phospholipase C (PLC)/TRPV1 signaling pathway. Evidence is presented for a fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH)-dependent fatty acid conjugation of p-aminophenol, a known acetaminophen metabolite, to form the potent TRPV1 activator AM404 in the central nervous system. 3. 3. Genetic and metabolic studies of APOE, PCSK9, TM6SF2 and PNPLA3

    Författare :Hovsep Mahdessian; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lipids – including fatty acids (FAs), triglycerides (TGs), cholesterol and cholesterol esters (CEs) – are hydrophobic molecules involved in several important structural and mechanistic processes. Lipids are found in cellular membranes, give posture and stability to the cell, are actively participating in cellular signaling, and act as mediators in several important biological pathways. 4. 4. Human Bone Alkaline Phosphatase Isoforms

    Författare :Per Magnusson; Markku T. Parviainen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Determination of serum total alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is frequently requested in clinical routine, mostly to estimate skeletal and hepatobiliary status. In this respect, clarification of the various ALP isoenzymes and isoforms contributing to the total ALP activity could be valuable in daily medical decision making. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of inositol pyrophosphates in pancreatic beta cell function

    Författare :Subu Surendran Rajasekaran; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Inositol pyrophosphates are high energy diphosphate containing molecules that are ubiquitous in eukaryotic cells. They have been implicated in diverse cellular processes ranging from DNA repair, telomere length regulation, ribosome synthesis, cell cycle regulation and apoptosis to osmoregulation, phosphate homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, vesicle trafficking, cytoskeletal rearrangement and exocytosis.
