  1. 1. Phase-field modeling of surface-energy driven processes

    Författare :Klara Asp Grönhagen; John Ågren; Suzana Fries; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Phase-field method; surface energy; solute drag; solid-state sintering; multicomponent multiphase flow; wetting; liquid-phase sintering; spinodal decomposition; CALPHAD; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Surface energy plays a major role in many phenomena that are important in technological and industrial processes, for example in wetting, grain growth and sintering. In this thesis, such surface-energy driven processes are studied by means of the phase-field method. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Phase field modeling of flaw-induced hydride precipitation kinetics in metals

    Författare :Claudio F. Nigro; Christer Persson; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydride; phase field theory; linear elastic fracture mechanics; finite element method; phase transformation; hydrogen embrittlement; finite volume method;

    Sammanfattning : Hydrogen embrittlement can manifest itself as hydride formation in structures when in contact with hydrogen-rich environments, e.g. in space and nuclear power applications. To supplant experimentation, modeling of such phenomena is beneficial to make life prediction reduce cost and increase the understanding. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Phase-field modeling of stress-induced precipitation and kinetics in engineering metals

    Författare :Claudio F. Nigro; Christina Bjerkén; Ylva Mellbin; Pär A T Olsson; Reinhart Pippan; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase-field theory; finite element method; corrosion; finite volume method; phase transformation; hydride; hydrogen embrittlement; linear elastic fracture mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : The formation of brittle compounds in metals operating in corrosive environments can be a tremendous source of embrittlement for industrial structures and such phenomenon is commonly enhanced in presence of stresses. To study this type of microstructural change modeling is preferred to experiment to reduce costs and prevent undesirable environmental impacts. LÄS MER

    Författare :Winston Mmari; Björn Johannesson; Lynn Schreyer; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Moisture transport; Coupled heat and moisture; Over-hygroscopic; Hybrid mixture theory; Mixture theory; Swelling; Hygro-mechanical; Non-linear elasticity; Large deformation; Phase field crack model; Anisotropic cracking; FEM; Numerical model; Norway spruce; Wood; Porous media; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Wood has been used as a construction material for a very long time. The development of efficient industrial production processes of wood has expanded the use of the material with the introduction of new products, such as engineered wood products. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Crystallization in additive manufacturing of metallic glass

    Författare :Anders Ericsson; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Amorphous metals; Crystallization; Laser powder bed fusion; Neutron scattering; Phase-field theory; Classical nucleation theory;

    Sammanfattning : Metallic glasses are non-crystalline metals that are obtained by rapid cooling of the melt to bypass crystallization. The amorphous atomic structure shows enhanced properties relative to the crystalline counterpart. For example, enhanced mechanical properties, improved corrosion resistance, as well as excellent soft magnetic properties. LÄS MER
