11. Motility of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes : An image processing approach
Sammanfattning : Cell motility is essential for polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) function in the defense against invading microorganisms and in inflammatory processes. Using digital video microscopy and image processing, individual cells were studied during random locomotion, chemotactic locomotion and phagocytosis. LÄS MER
12. Streptococcus pyogenes and its interactions with the human host
Sammanfattning : We have found that a set of group A streptococcal strains, primarily associated with skin infections, express surface-associated M proteins that bind plasminogen and plasmin with high affinity. The binding is mediated by a common 13 amino acid internal repeated sequence located in the NH2-terminal surface-exposed portion of these M proteins. LÄS MER
13. The importance of monocyte and granulocyte activation in rheumatoid arthritis and primary Sjögren's syndrome
Sammanfattning : Macrophages and neutrophils infiltrate the synovium and synovial fluid in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These cells are considered to contribute to the destructive process in RA.The expression of adhesion and phagocytosis receptors on the surface of peripheral granulocytes and monocytes was increased in patients with RA. 14. Modulatory role of IL-17 in airway inflammation
Sammanfattning : IL-17 orchestrates the accumulation of neutrophils to sites of infection and the release of microbicidal substances, and therefore plays a critical role in the innate immune response to infection. IL-17 is also involved in certain chronic inflammatory diseases in which dysfunctional control of neutrophil accumulation and turnover constitutes an important pathogenic factor. LÄS MER
15. Interactions between Streptococcus pyogenes and the human immune system, with special reference to C4b-binding protein
Sammanfattning : The ability of many pathogenic microorganisms to cause infection is dependent on their ability to evade attack by the complement system of the host. One mechanism by which microorganisms may avoid complement attack is to bind complement inhibitory molecules present in the host. LÄS MER
