1. Assessment and management of bariatric surgery patients
Sammanfattning : Background: In morbidly obese individuals (MO) cardiorespiratory comorbidities and body habitus challenge the perioperative management of anesthesia. To implement safe and reproducible routines for anesthesia and fluid therapy is the cornerstone in order to minimize anesthesia-related complications and to meet individual variability in rehydration needs. 2. Safety and efficacy in the cataract surgery process
Sammanfattning : BackgroundCataract and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are two major causes for visual impairment in the elderly. Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgical interventions performed in the western world. As a consequence of the increasing number of operations performed, postoperative visits are a large workload for surgical units. LÄS MER
3. Significance of white matter anatomy in interpreting features and behaviour of low-grade gliomas and implications for surgical treatment
Sammanfattning : Diffuse gliomas are extremely heterogeneous tumours characterized by slow growth but extensive infiltration. Their kinetic features reflect the complex interaction over time with the surrounding brain, influencing treatment planning and outcome. LÄS MER
4. Staging and tumor biological mechanisms of lymph node metastasis in invasive urinary bladder cancer
Sammanfattning : Aim: To study the possibility of detecting lymph node metastasis in locally advanced urinary bladder cancer (UBC) treated with radical cystectomy (RC) by using preoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and peroperative sentinel node biopsy (SNB) technique. We also investigate the clinical significance of macrophage traits expression by cancer cells, M2-macrophage infiltration (MI) in tumor stroma and the immunohistochemical expression of biomarkers in cancer cells in relation to clinicopathologic data. 5. Molecular epidemiology of Staphylococcus epidermidis in prosthetic joint infections
Sammanfattning : Staphylococcus epidermidis is ubiquitous in the human microbiota, but also an important pathogen in healthcare-associated infections, such as prosthetic joint infections (PJIs). In this thesis, aspects of the molecular epidemiology of S. LÄS MER
