11. Safeguarding from surgical site infections : A mutual responsibility between the patient, caregiver and the perioperative healthcare leaders
Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis is to describe and explore preventive measuresand risks for surgical site infections. Methods: Study I, a registry based and observational design study, includes 35 056cases analysed for risks for reoperation caused by periprosthetic joint infection afterelective total hip arthroplasty. 12. Perioperative myocardial damage and cardiac outcome in patients-at-risk undergoing non-cardiac surgery
Sammanfattning : Despite increasingly sophisticated perioperative management, cardiovascular complications continue to be major challenges for the clinician. As a growing number of elderly patients with known coronary artery disease (CAD) or with risk factors for CAD are undergoing non-cardiac surgery, cardiovascular complications will remain a significant clinical problem in the future. 13. Perioperative regimens for patients undergoing elective hip or knee arthroplasties
Sammanfattning : Background: Elective knee and hip arthroplasty are common surgical procedures. Improved anaesthetic and nutritional care has the potential of increasing patient satisfaction and reducing length of hospital stay (LOS). LÄS MER
14. Transesophageal Echocardiography in Patients Undergoing Elective Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
Sammanfattning : Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has become a useful tool in monitoring the heart in patients during open-heart surgery. This study was undertaken to evaluate whether it is feasible to use TEE to assess left ventricular myocardial viability in anesthetized patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). 15. Severe Hemodilution - Clinical and Experimental Studies
Sammanfattning : In children, it is often desirable to minimize allogenic blood transfusion, and this thesis explores the physiology of an alternative method of managing perioperative blood loss: hemodilution with Ringer´s dextran. Methods Clinical studies: Arterial pressure, superior caval venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) and blood lactate concentration (L) were studied during bone marrow harvesting (BMH) on 23 occasions in 19 children, 1-17 years of age, with healthy hearts and lungs.
