1. Attosecond Optical and Electronic Wave Packets
Sammanfattning : When a low-frequency laser pulse is focused to a high intensity in a gas, the electric field of the laser may become comparable to, or even exceed, the electric field between the electrons and the nucleus in the atom. Under such conditions, through a process known as high-order harmonic generation, bursts of extreme ultraviolet radiation may be emitted, with durations in the attosecond domain (1 as = 10^{-18} s), which is the time-scale of electronic processes. 2. Characterization of non-coding RNAs in cancer
Sammanfattning : While originally though to only code for proteins, it now stands clear that RNA is a multifunctional molecule involved in a great variety of molecular processes. Recent advances in genome-wide platforms have revealed underappreciated roles of non-protein coding RNAs (ncRNAs). LÄS MER
3. Genomics of chicken domestication and feralisation
Sammanfattning : Domestication can serve as a study system of rapid evolutionary change with wide-ranging effects on traits in animals. The chicken was domesticated from the Red Junglefowl and has diverged in behaviour, morphology and life history traits. LÄS MER
4. The importance of being thin : perceived expectations from self and others and the effect on self-evaluation in girls with disordered eating
Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to examine personal standards, self-evaluation and attitudes to eating and weight in the development of disturbed eating in adolescent girls, and to examine how adolescent girls with a clinical eating disorder reflect upon and deal with perceived expectations in daily life.Studies I and II were quantitative studies, conducted in a population-based longitudinal study. 5. Disordered eating among Swedish adolescents : associations with emotion dysregulation, depression and self-esteem
Sammanfattning : The path to an eating disorder (ED) always leads through a borderland, which, in this thesis, is referred to as disordered eating (DE) (Neumark-Sztainer, Wall, Eisenberg,Story, & Hannan, 2006; Waaddegaard, Thoning, & Petersson, 2003). In this borderland, people tend to make unhealthy eating choices, such as greatly reducing their food intake, self-inducing vomiting, or engaging in binge eating, but not to the extent that they would receive an ED diagnosis.
