1. The effects of crayfish on interactions in freshwater benthic communities
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines how freshwater crayfish affect community interactions in benthic food webs. I have mainly studied the influence of the introduced signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) on littoral communities, but also the influence of the native noble crayfish (Astacus astacus). 2. Att göra historia : En kritisk studie av historieämnet som kunskapsorganiserande system
Sammanfattning : The central theme of the present thesis is the history subject viewed as a knowledge organizing system (KOS). The history subject is studied as a class within the two universal classification systems SAB and DDC, where it is characterized by a conceptual intention and extension giving it a unique identity. 3. Microgels as Carriers for Antimicrobial Peptides : Surface-bound microgels, and factors affecting peptide interactions
Sammanfattning : With a growing number of multi-resistant bacteria against conventional antibiotics, there is an urgent need to identify new antimicrobial therapeutics. One example that has gained considerable interest is antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). LÄS MER
4. Stromal collagens in colorectal cancer and in colorectal liver metastases : tumour biological implications and a source for novel tumour markers
Sammanfattning : Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality. About 50 % of patients with CRC will develop subsequent liver metastases (CLM). The survival for untreated CLM is only a few months and liver resection provides the only chance for a lasting cure. LÄS MER
5. Early events in disease associated protein misfolding
Sammanfattning : The scope of this thesis is to unravel some of the mysteries concerning events takingplace early in the amyloid cascade. In vitro studies of early misfolded states ofamyloidogenic proteins are important since the use of recombinant proteins allow us to monitor slight changes in environmental conditions as well as in amino acid composition and thereby illuminate the problem at near atomic resolution.
