6. Radiation Oncology Data and Modelling Side Effects after Radiation Therapy
Sammanfattning : Although modern radiation therapy techniques have the ability to conform the dose distribution of ionizing radiation tightly around the volume to be treated, unwanted irradiation to surrounding organs remains a problem. The probability of a side effect arising in the normal tissue of a patient after radiation therapy can be modelled by sigmoid mathematical functions known as normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models. 8. Secretory and anti-inflammatory actions of some gastro-intestinal hormones in salivary glands
Sammanfattning : Textbooks generally state that the secretory activity of salivary glands is solely regulated by nerves. This view is challenged in the present Thesis, using the parotid gland of the anaesthetized rat as experimental in vivo model. LÄS MER
9. Fractionated irradiation of salivary glands : loss and protection of function
Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy of malignancies in the head and neck often involves the major and minor salivary glands in the radiation field. Adverse effects, such as dry mouth symptoms, are common after such therapy. LÄS MER
